Buttoned or open vest: which belt?

A buttoned vest with a belt through its loops works like trousers — choose the format suited to the vest's loops. An open, loop-free vest, on the other hand, offers two options: the belt worn under the vest (on the base layer), visible through the central opening; or a wide belt worn over the open vest, structuring the whole silhouette.
